Don Scott is a fine art oil painter and pencil/charcoal artist, nestled in the Sierra Nevada, whose work breathes life into the souls of people and animals. With a special love for portraying horses and children, Don’s art is a heartfelt exploration of character, truth, and sensitivity, capturing the traits that make his subjects unique.

His artistic journey began as a young boy, watching his grandfather paint landscapes in the garage. Those quiet moments of observation and endless hours sketching from nature instilled in Don a love for art that only grew stronger over time. Largely self-taught, he later pursued formal training at Sacramento State University, earning a double major in fine art and graphic design in 1990. After years of balancing his art with a career in graphic design, Don transitioned into teaching, where he found another passion. Now retired, he has returned to his first love—creating art full time.

Don’s work is a fusion of traditional techniques and his own distinctive style, deeply rooted in his eclectic upbringing. Growing up with a veterinarian stepfather, a pastor father, and a special education teacher mother, Don was surrounded by the beauty of nature, animals, and diverse individuals. This rich environment shaped his artistic lens, giving him an eye for the subtle details that define character and personality.

Known for the lifelike dynamism in his work, Don’s clients often say his portraits seem to come alive on the canvas. His goal is simple but profound—to reveal the essence of his subjects, peeling back the layers to capture the spirit that resides beneath the surface.
